Oh man, how I loved french toast when I was little. The smell of it, crispiness, … But since I try to cut down on animal products I tried to make it vegan.

And you know what? It totally worked.

Such a flavorful treat made only with few basic ingredients that you have to try it out.

Plus let me just remind you of one thing that is muy importante for me – don’t throw food away.

Try to turn it into something even though it is not as fresh as the first day you bought it. Old bread can be turned into bread pudding, bread crumbs, french toast and so much more. You can check out this bread pudding with apples!

ingredients

4 tbsp
ground flaxseeds
4 dl
plant based milk
1 pinch
salt
4 tbsp
vegan butter or coconut oil
8 slices
old bread

instructions

  • 1.

Soak flaxseeds in plant based milk for around 20 minutes. Then salt the mixture and dip pieces of bread in it.

  • 2.

If you have very dry bread let it soak for around a minute. If it is quite fresh 10 seconds will be enough.

  • 3.

Heat two tablespoons of vegan butter or coconut oil in a pan and cook 4 bread pieces on each side for few minutes on medium temperature until nicely golden. Repeat with other four bread pieces.

  • 4.

Serve right away with you favorite topping.

wise-ass corner

I recommend using dry bread because it will be nicely soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside.

Toppings suggestions: fruit, jam, maple syrup, sugar+cinnamon mix, …
